Imposter game

Everyone gets the same secret word except one player. Each player scans their own code, says one word about it, and the room votes for the imposter. Free, with no app or account.

Free, no account needed. The link holds the whole sign.

One secret word, one imposter

Everyone opens their own link on their phone and sees the same secret word, except one player, whose phone says “You are the imposter”. Go around the room: each player says one word about the secret word without giving it away, then everyone votes for the imposter.

The TV shows the rules, one QR code per player, who starts and the vote. The links carry a random round seed instead of the word, so a camera preview or a shared link never spoils the round. Press New round for a different word and a different imposter.

Choose a word set and 3 to 12 players. The imposter can see the category, which helps them bluff, or play without it for a harder round. Nothing is stored and no accounts are needed.

Put it on a TV

  1. Make it above. The preview is exactly what the screen shows.
  2. Open it on the screen. Press Open fullscreen on that device, or send yourself the link. For a TV with an account, open ownscreen.com/tv and enter its code on your phone.
  3. Leave it running. It fits any screen size and asks the screen to stay on.

Questions

How do you play the imposter game?
Every player scans their own QR code and sees the same secret word except one player, the imposter. Each player says one word about the word, in turn, without saying the word itself. Then the room discusses and votes for the player they think is the imposter.
How many players do you need?
Three to twelve players, with five as the usual starting point. With three players one round is quick; with eight or more, give everyone one word and take a second turn before the vote.
Does everyone need a phone?
Yes, one phone per player. The TV shows one code per player, and each player scans their own code; the tool page also lists the player links for a group chat. No account, app or sign-in is needed.
