New Year countdown
A countdown to midnight on New Year’s Eve, fullscreen on any TV or projector. Each screen counts to midnight in its own time zone, then shows your message at zero.
Midnight where the screen is
New Year arrives at a different moment in every time zone, so this countdown uses the time zone of the screen it runs on. A link made in New York and opened in London counts to London’s midnight. Open it on each TV before the party and every room celebrates at its own midnight.
At zero the countdown is replaced by your message. With the fireworks background the sky behind it ends with a volley. The page asks the screen to stay awake, and the time, the text and the background all live in the link: nothing is stored on our servers and no account is needed.
Put it on a TV
- Make it above. The preview is exactly what the screen shows.
- Open it on the screen. Press Open fullscreen on that device, or send yourself the link. For a TV with an account, open ownscreen.com/tv and enter its code on your phone.
- Leave it running. It fits any screen size and asks the screen to stay on.
Questions
- Do all my screens count to the same moment?
- No, and that is on purpose: each screen counts to midnight in its own time zone, so a TV in London and one in New York each celebrate at their own midnight. For one shared instant, such as doors opening in several cities at once, use the countdown timer, which saves its target in UTC.
- Do I need an account?
- No. The time, the text and the background are all in the link, so a free fullscreen link works on any screen. An account adds live screens you change from your phone.
- Can I put it on several TVs?
- Yes. Open the same link on each one, and each counts to midnight where it is. To change the text on all of them later without touching each screen, save it as a live screen and edit it from your phone.
